I love experimenting with digital photography, but don't always afford to buy the equipment for one-off experiments. Taking panoramic shots does not have to be so complex and expensive, the method I used is simple (and cheap)

Was having dinner with Maiu Reismann and Francis Tapon this evening, a uniquely inspiring couple who like to travel on a shoe string. Francis Tapon is a public speaker, consultant, and life coach. He has traveled to over 60 countries and plans to backpack the Pacific Crest Trail and the Continental Divide Trail. He was born and raised in San Francisco, is half French, and half Chilean. He has a degree with Honors in Religion from Amherst College and an MBA from Harvard Business School. Whilst Maiu Reismann seems like a true adventurer and good hearted women who is open to just about anything. They make a great couple.

They usually set off from country to country with nothing but a tarp and other basic ultralight equipment with the intention of just pitching up where ever is convenient. They can be characterised as a couple who almost continuously travel to absorb what ever the world throws their way, with a little help from being ready to camp or use the couch surfing project.

“Hike Your Own Hike” Francis’s latest book teaser:

Francis Tapon knew he had a good life—he had a great career, fantastic friends, a nice home, and a cool electric shaver. However, something was missing. His life was good, but not great. It was quite predictable and safe, but thoroughly uninspiring. He wondered how to take his life to the next level. He thought it would be smart to do what the sages do: hang out in the woods for several months and get some wisdom. Although he ultimately found wisdom, finding it wasn’t as easy or as romantic as all those spiritual books say it is. They neglect to mention that during the hot humid summer months there’s no air conditioning in the woods. Hike Your Own Hike balances the story of an adventurous and insightful trip across the Appalachian Mountains with practical advice on how to squeeze the most out of life both on and off the trail. It’s enlightening, educational, and entertaining. It’s a serious book that doesn’t take itself so seriously. Hiking the entire Appalachian Trail in one season has soared in popularity over the last 20 years. Compared to 1986, there are eight times more people trying to “thru-hike” it! What accounts for this phenomenon? Today people are overly stressed and need a break to return to the fundamentals. Feeling disconnected from the rhythms of life, hikers go on multi-month trails to recalibrate their perspective and to remind themselves of what really matters. Hike Your Own Hike is about an incredible pilgrimage, what we can learn from it, and how to enrich our lives without getting too muddy.

The Council of Europe has recently published an online gallery showing all the works of art and donations of all it's member countries, including Malta which was represented by Marco Cremona. Marco Cremona's art is unique because he has managed to amalgamate the arts of sculpture and painting in much of his production, spread out as it is in various local and foreign private collections. He has, over the years, developed his singular manner of abstraction as the exhibits fully bear out.

The Council of Europe has recently published an online gallery showing all the works of art and donations of all it’s member countries, including Malta which was represented by Marco Cremona. Marco Cremona’s art is unique because he has managed to amalgamate the arts of sculpture and painting in much of his production, spread out as it is in various local and foreign private collections. He has, over the years, developed his singular manner of abstraction as the exhibits fully bear out.

Born in 1951, Marco Cremona has been active as an artist for over these past 30 years starting his career under the direct tuition of his father, Emvin Cremona (1919 – 1987), one of the pioneers of modern art in Malta. Subsequently, he proceeded to carve a name for himself following a period of training at the Accademia Pietro Vannucci in Perugia in 1969 and a four-year course (1970 – 1974) at the Slade School of Fine Art (University College) in London.

Cremona, who has exhibited on many occasions both in Malta and other countries, has received a number of commissions for works in various Maltese Churches, Hotels, Restaurants and also for Public Monuments.

The online gallery can be found here

1:55, not the best result by far. I roughly did a little better then half the 2000 runners in the Malta Land Rover Marathon 2009. It was not as tough as I first anticipated, but it was the longest run I’ve ever done.

I ran the half without any physical training, I guess you could say that I had mental stamina, but no strategy. I wasn’t even sure If I felt like running that morning. Disaster!

In the first 2/3rds of the race I was picking out the runners I would like to reach and calmly increasing my pace to reach them. Things were going great, they gave out more drinks and refreshments then I expected which really helped. When I reach the down hills I started picking up pace, thinking that the finish line was close.

Up until then things where great, I was high in spirit and was even cheering some people on. But then I hit the wall! by the time I realised that I had much more road left it was too late . I was tempted to stop but kept on going, barely making it. The graph speaks for itself.

Conclusion … next year I am going to take the half marathon much more seriously. I’m going to prepare myself physically and gather all the logistics before I sign up…. duh!
