Why don’t more people freedive? Apnea – with photos by Daniel Hansson

My thoughts on Freediving

IMG_2804
Freediving (Apnea) feeling weightless, observing, feeling at one with nature

Freediving is exactly that, diving for free. But it doesn’t just stop there, it’s both a sport and a passion for many people. I love the feeling of swimming into the blue with nothing but a pair of fins, mask (…swimsuit). The learning curve may be high if your aiming for diving deep ,but the payoff of discovering another world with your own lung capacity and mental training is big. It’s all about looking down into that deep blue world from the surface, excited, but at the same time concentrating on your breathing. When you’re ready, when you are confident you’ve got enough air in you to dive, you  head first into the the deep… the exciting part has just began, you’re on you own now, in a meditative trance, you’re focused on going deeper while keeping an eye on things below you,  A massive ship that appears out of the blue on descent at 30 meters can give you a shocking feeling, a straight (up and down) dive, or a first time dive in an underwater cave or tunnel; it’s always interesting no matter what you are free diving for.

Self Watering Container vegetable gardening at home – be self sufficiant!

June 10

Creating the self-watering garden container, AKA Earthbox:

With a self-watering garden container you won’t have to water the plants as much. Just fill the reservoir with water and it will be wicked up through soil-filled pond filter to your plants’ roots. In theory, it should maintain the optimum moisture in the soil, save water, and make container gardening (indoors and out) really low-maintenance. I’ve also included some tips on how many plants you can grow in the same pot depending on their type! Enjoy

Which Crop to Grow

Most veg that grows in a backyard will do well as a container plants.  Carrots, Cucumber, Green beans, Lettuce, Parsley, Pepper, Radishes, Spinach & tomatoes are amongst the most popular

Fertilization

Conatiner plants need to be fertilized more then field-grown plants because they have less soil to provide the nutrients they need. A soluble fertilizer applied once a week is recommended while watering. I suggest using a 15-30-15 oe 20-20-20

Growing Tomatos

  1. Dont crowd the seedling, give them room to branch out.
  2. Provide lots of light. luckly for me I live in Malta, if you live in a location that lacks light you may consider having growing lights running at 14-18 hours at a time.
  3. put a fan on you seedlings, I thought that this whould not work but it did. To develop strong stems you’ll need to train them, provide a breeze for a couple of minutes a day
  4. Preheat the soil, more heat means that you’ll harvest sooner
  5. Once at 3 inch high. remove bottom leavs, so the plant will grow faster
  6. romove the suckers that develop at the joint of the plant – they just take the energy away
  7. Water them regularly when plants are developing. Also, feed the tomatos a lot more once they are blossoming

Dinner with Maiu Reismann and Francis Tapon

Dinner with Maiu Reismann and Francis Tapon

Was having dinner with Maiu Reismann and Francis Tapon this evening, a uniquely inspiring couple who like to travel on a shoe string. Francis Tapon is a public speaker, consultant, and life coach. He has traveled to over 60 countries and plans to backpack the Pacific Crest Trail and the Continental Divide Trail. He was born and raised in San Francisco, is half French, and half Chilean. He has a degree with Honors in Religion from Amherst College and an MBA from Harvard Business School. Whilst Maiu Reismann seems like a true adventurer and good hearted women who is open to just about anything. They make a great couple.

They usually set off from country to country with nothing but a tarp and other basic ultralight equipment with the intention of just pitching up where ever is convenient. They can be characterised as a couple who almost continuously travel to absorb what ever the world throws their way, with a little help from being ready to camp or use the couch surfing project.
